My song is on this disc along with songs by Missy Higgins, John Butler , the Cat Empire, The Waifs and more.:)
The editor wrote "Jessica Paige writes jazzy acoustic pop sophisticated beyond her years".
I like to say I was "on the cover of Rolling Stone" - do you think that is pushing it ??
Melbourne's daily newspaper, The AGE, runs a Summer Segment on interesting occupations.... I busk in Bourke Street Mall sometimes, so this was taken on a 40 degee day....

JESSICA PAIGE Under My Skin (Independent)
The second EP from this young Melbourne songbird is instantly appealing. With a certain class captured in her sounds, Paige jumps from piano-driven ballads (‘Under My Skin’) to haunting middle of the road (‘Let It Out’) and swing-infused pop (‘My Best Friend’). However it doesn’t get any better than ‘Buckley’, a track that name-checks the artists that have shaped her musical growth over a bed of bluesy guitar. Paige is definitely one to watch. (BP)

Oz Music Project Nov 2004 She has created a great mix of acoustic pop/rock with a pinch of jazz. It’s easy to see that Jessica will go far in our current musical climate, . The title track ‘Back of our Minds’ sent shivers down my spine on first listen. The song is a superb poem, something that you will find as a constant feature in Jessica Paige’s music. While each song on the CD shares a common sweet sound, each is different, and you can’t accuse Jessica of being repetitive and unimaginative. ‘It's Crazy Baby’ showcases her Jazz influence; the vocals on this track are impressive and very powerful. Jessica Paige has delivered a wonderfully mature and brilliant CD, flowing with her gorgeously vibrant voice and surrounded by jazzy pop/rock acoustic sounds. It really is a treat. Back Of Our Minds Independent
Melbourne songstress, Jessica Paige, was awarded a grant by the Australia Council for Arts so that she could record these delicious tracks featured on her EP ‘Back of our Minds’. The girl’s got class ladies and gents! She has a very mature and vibrant voice with wonderful range; it’s a pleasure to listen to her sing.
Jessica Paige is a Melbourne singer-songwriter who should be on radio and should be heard. Back of Our Minds is probably one of the best EP's released in the last two years. The songs have meaning and soul. The first song, Under My Skin, is a pop/rock track that is beautifully written and brings you in with Jessica's powerful vocals and its driving beat and ballad feel.
There is a jazzy feel with the song "No Guarantees". "Back Of Our Minds" is a beautifully written song with just Jessica and her guitar, which really brings out Jessica's vocals.
"Hate's a Baby" is another great song like the first one, but is darker and more powerful, less poppy and more rock. Jessica's vocals really shine and the track really grabs you with its anthem feel.
"It's Crazy Baby" is a song I could really hear on radio because it's so soulful catchy and so damn funky!!
"Dirty Secrets" is an excellent track that has everything a good song should have...the song is really pure pop-rock Heaven and is a beautiful honest song ...music to the ears.
Jessica Paige is someone the industry needs right now and needs to be heard. A real singer-songwriter who actually writes lyrics and songs that have meaning. Go and buy her EP as you will not be disappointed!

In a little restaurant-bar down the quieter end of Brunswick, an intimate crowd were treated to an evening of unique, sincere and honest talent.
On the stage and in the spotlight first was Melbourne's own Jessica Paige, winner of last year's JB Seed Grant and numerous other songwriting awards. With a simple beauty and sweet smile, the 21-year-old opened the show with her soulful and emotive pop-alternative ballads.
Without disregarding her talents in creating music, what is immediately impressive is the quality of Jessica's voice. Caressing the atmosphere with her soft blend of smooth tones and gentle whispers, you can hear her thinking out aloud, the effortless sounds seemingly youthful, but mature at the same time. Through tracks such as her first single Under My Skin and the soon-to-be-recorded Flying Away (about the conflict in Afghanistan), Jessica Paige confirmed her status as one of the country's most promising singer- songwriters.

It was a wet, wintry and windy night as I trudged through the back streets of Carlton to see Jessica and the Paige Boys and 2 other bands at the Dan O'Connell's Carlton Music Room.
Jessica strummed her acoustic guitar gently and sang beautifully, she and her band have a magnetic stage presence and clearly love what they do. The band backed her in a minimalist style and punters started to dance. Heck, I'm a jaded hack who sees too many bands that musically masturbate on stage that I'm pretty hard to win over these days, but I found myself dancing too! I had learned that the drummer, Peter "Robbo" Robertson, has drummed with Ariel and Spectrum. Wow! Here was a living legend ... but I found myself drawn back to the music.
Standout tracks were Goodbye Little Fish and My Best Friend. I enjoyed this band a lot. I guess they may fit into the indie pop/rock/ ballad oeuvre and as the set concluded, I thought that this band deserves to go on to bigger and more illustrious things. Jessica and the Paige Boys has a new CD out in September... it was a great evening's music.
Melbourne's music scene is hopelessly clogged with too many turgid musicians who have no real styles of their own- just a pastiche of their crappy CD collections.
At the Carlton Music Room, I saw a band that had their own unique sound. They were playing their own stuff and for the most part, not sounding overtly like anyone else. Just themselves. I was glad to have witnessed this gig.
Thumbs up!

Band Live Review
The Jager Uprising 13/7/05
Jess and the Paige Boys were sandwiched between the two rock bands but they were the highlight of the night. Fresh faced young Jess is a girl on the move. She has surrounded herself with a great band of pro players who help highlight her wonderful voice and songwriting ability. She plays acoustic guitar and the band features drums, guitar, bass and violin. Together they create a sound that has plenty of sass. One funky song showed the ability of the band to play different styles and a great duo of Jess and Nick on the violin brought the house down. The violin is such an expressive instrument and coupled with Jess's sweet voice created a great emotional song. Jess loves being on the stage and has a stage manner that belies her years. Highly recommended!

Jess & the Paige Boys @ The Evelyn
Female-fronted by the leather-skirted-and-one-red-stockinged Jess on gee-tar and vocals, she and her Paige Boys take the stage and proceed to fuel proceedings with some very amicable acoustic-tinged folk rock – this is minimalist folk at its finest. Sparse and pleasantly understated, there are moments of quite painful beauty which tend to erupt every so often into virulent crescendos in dynamic contrast to the relatively cruisy nature of the music as a whole.
Jess's vocals are high and defiantly melodic without being cloying,…. She tends to sigh deeply and audibly before each number, a charming reminder that this girl with the surprisingly developed voice is actually relatively unseasoned – and utterly earnest in her delivery… it adds up to lend a spark of youthful, enthusiastic passion that is all too easily lost in a lot of musicians nowadays.
Of particular note is the inclusion of a rather inventive keyboardist in the mix, who swings from quietly ethereal to jaunty honky-tonk style chunking as the mood sees fit. A lead guitar occasionally blasts into the solo spotlight with rock-like leads which, surprisingly, do not seem out of place at all.
Jess and the Paige Boys have pretty much honed the art of minimalist musicality to a fine point… Jess' voice receives compliments aplenty… the set is smoking.
