Busking news
Well many of you know that I am and have been a busker since I was 14, in the city of Melbourne. Buskers must get a permit ( free)
The Lord Mayor, John Doyle, launched his draft Street Activity Policy this morning, believes a screening process would help raise the standard of street performers. I was invited to go and represent the buskers. I sang a couple of my songs to the TV cameras and was interviewed by various journalists ( look out for me on all TV channels news programs in Melbourne tonight AND in The Age and The Herald Sun and more papers.) I also said that new buskers might need a bit of mentoring rather than being denied and that if buskers are on the panel to select the new buskers we should be compensated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH7kPmUb0-c Here is the news item on it just out:http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/7955078/busker-hits-sour-note-over-mayor The "angry resident" mentioned in the above story has confronted me and Josh and other buskers often. She obviously hadn't taken into account that moving into a city centre there are noises from cars, people, music, yelling, trams, etc. She chose to live on the noisiest corner right on Swanston Street and she thinks everyone should be quiet for her. Hmmmm. I busk around there most Friday and Saturday nights and my brother busks those nights too. We get a lot of positive feedback. |
